1 - What is an amoeboid trichomonad ?


Flagellated form of trichomonad is only one of the avatars of these protists. An other avatar is the amoeboid form.
Transformation of flagellated form into amoeboid form is observed in vitro when adhering to coverslips or to host cells in culture systems,
or in vivo when adhering to epithelial cells of host.
When transforming into amoeboid form, trichomonads develop pseudopods and lost their flagella.
So, amoeboid trichomonads look like anonymous cells that have lost their distinctive marks and can mimic human cells.
